Does Online Hypnosis Work?

A question I’m often asked is whether hypnosis can work online. We’re all getting used to meeting people online, whether it’s on Zoom, Skype or some other platform. Many people are now increasingly interested in holding sessions online; in-fact I’ve had to make it a requirement since the start of the Covid-19 lockdown here in Connecticut. But clients are often concerned if online hypnosis is as effective as face to face hypnosis, or if it even works at all.

Does hypnosis work online?

Yes absolutely!

You don’t need a hypnotist to be in the same room as you to go into a state of hypnosis. As long as you are relaxed and you can follow the voice of the hypnotist you can enter into a hypnotic state for hypnotherapy to take place. There really is little difference to face to face hypnosis in that respect; in-fact some people may find it more comfortable and relaxing in their own home, making it easier for them to enter into a state of hypnosis.

According to research published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research: “Results indicate that e-therapy seems to be at least equivalent to face to face therapy.”

Is online hypnosis safe?

Often people have misconceptions about hypnosis from film and TV; this is stage hypnosis and not the same as hypnotherapy. You are always in complete control during hypnosis. The hypnotist can’t take over your mind, they can’t make you do anything you don’t want to and this is true online as it is face to face. Really it just comes down to a person of experience talking you down into a natural, relaxed state, known as hypnosis; and they can do that just as effectively and safely in a virtual setting.

A common concern people have is getting stuck in hypnosis. This is not possible. We all enter and leave a hypnotic state at multiple times naturally – when we’re reading a good book, engrossed in a movie or focused on a job.

Hypnotists use this state of hypnosis to instil positive statements that have a desired effect in your life. If you don’t believe in what a hypnotist is saying, you don’t have to accept it as your own belief.

Hypnosis works best when clients want to experience change and are open to it’s possibilities. So if you don’t want the change the hypnotist is suggesting, you won’t.

Will Online Hypnosis Work for me?

If you have an open mind and a desire to make change in your life hypnosis could work for you. Hypnosis can be effective for the majority of people. Researchers estimate that 10 to 15 percent of adults are highly hypnotizable, 20 percent are completely resistant to hypnosis, and the rest of the population falls somewhere in the middle.  There are no guarantees with hypnosis, but with the right hypnotist and an open mind the practice is frequently proven as effective both online and face to face.
